The process will vary depending on the client’s needs and the complexity of the project. However most residential design projects include the following:

Initial Consultation. This is a chance for us to meet and review the requirements and objectives of the project.

Site Plan. We will gather any existing documents that you may have. If you do not have a site plan with topography, property lines and existing site features we can help you obtain a survey. It is important to begin every project with a proper survey so the project is accurate.

Concept Plan. After listening to your ideas and priorities, we will analyzes the site’s character, strengths and problems, and then develop a concept plans for review.

Master Plan. The final master plan represents the culmination of your choices with us, and typically includes a complete spatial layout for your outdoor living spaces and other hardscape or architectural concepts.  This may be enough information for a contractor to start to provide estimates for they work.

Virtual Renderings. In this phase we use the approved concept and masterplan to illustrate your outdoor living space in 3 dimensions, including proposed finishes, colors, furnishings, and conceptual planting.

Planting Plan. We will develop a planting plan after the hardscape has been finalized. This is a working drawing from which the garden will actually be planted, and includes botanical names, container sizes, specific plant locations, and planting instructions to the contractor.

Additional Plan Documents. Depending on the scope of your project, we may also provide a lighting plan, specialized guidelines on planting or irrigation, or notes and sketches on design elements such as water features or furniture and accessories placement.

Additional Services. We can assist you in soliciting and reviewing construction bids, including referring contractors appropriate for your project. We can stay involved throughout the installation phase to advise on design modifications, material selections and purchase and placement of garden art and accessories.  At the completion of the project we can write a maintenance plan for the future of your new landscape.

Site Furnishings. We can select furniture which can be ordered through Bishop Design that will fit in the space we designed for you.
